LatchKey Gallery is pleased to present Last Supper, a group exhibition curated by Tamecca Seril. The exhibition will simultaneously be on view by appointment at 323 Canal Street, NYC and in special partnership at Industry City, Brooklyn, from February 9 – March 20, 2021. Showcasing the exhibition in two locations allows LatchKey Gallery to further it’s mission in fostering meaningful community engagement and accessibility to art, while also expanding the platform of visual representation for our participating artists.

The title of the exhibition is a pointed reference to the biblical event of “the Last Supper” – the communal gathering and sanctification of Jesus and his twelve apostles. The shared and strategic aspects of revolution are often viewed and uplifted as a male experience and white-washed through the historical lens of art. This exhibition aims to fill the dearth of Black female voices at the contemporary, metaphoric table. Last Supper builds a new “table” that not only values but elevates and honors the voices of Black Women.

Showcasing the works of twelve Black female artists working across multiple mediums, Last Supper is a celebration of fellowship. The exhibition considers a deep history of Black Woman artists’ finding solace in one another, and organizing and materializing movements through radical thinking, innovation, and experimentation within and out of the art establishment. The works presented explore themes of representation and cultural histories, experiences, and perceptions.

Last Supper features the work of Ariel Dannielle, Ashante Kindle, Dana Robinson, Dominque Duroseau, Jennifer Mack-Watkins, Josie Love Roebuck, Nkechi Ebubedike, Kimberly Becoat, LaToya Hobbs, Turiya Magadlela, Ify Chiejina and Shervone Neckles.
