Inna Babaeva’s recent body of work uses hot blown glass to create sovereign objects. Their shapes, colors and fluctuating transparency are simultaneously familiar and alien. They are fragile but they contain an energy that defies the power of gravity. They morph under the stress of physical forces - pressured by heavy weight, falling off an edge, or bursting through matter. These glass “organisms” are engaged with objects and materials of mass-production to juxtapose replicated to unique, machine-made to hand-made, and disposable to precious.
