Victoria Martinez

ABOUT

Victoria Martinez (b. 1987 Chicago, Illinois) is an interdisciplinary artist who creates painting, installation art and public art. She received her MFA in Painting from the Yale School of Art in 2020, and her BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2010. Martinez’s work engages with the specificities of place by fabricating site-specific works that respond to the embedded histories or physical conditions of their spaces of installation. Seeking to re-capture their psychological and sensorial encounters, her art tends to work at large scales that immerse the beholder. Her site-oriented works address the relations of time and memory, as well as community and identity. Martinez has exhibited at the Yale University Art Gallery, the National Museum of Mexican Art and Perrotin Gallery through their online platform. Her work has been critically appraised in Poetry Foundation Magazine and The University of Chicago Press. Upcoming projects include a solo exhibition at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles and an art feature in New American Paintings.
